The Power of Three - how collaboration between financial services, tech platforms and telcos is helping to defeat fraudsters.

We see frequent reports in the media calling for tech platforms and telcos to do more to stop scams on their platforms and channels. This focus has intensified since the Payment Systems Regulator introduced mandatory reimbursement for victims of authorised push payment scams, placing responsibility not only on the sending bank, but also on those hosting mule accounts.

It is widely recognised that many frauds originate through social engineering, often using social media, messaging services, or other digital channels to target consumers. By the time a bank becomes aware, the scam may already be well advanced, with consumers persuaded to override the safeguards designed to protect them.  However, it’s not all doom and gloom – Stop Scams UK, who amongst its members includes financial services , tech platforms and telcos, has been pioneering collaborative working and demonstrates successes in a number of intelligence sharing programmes.  FWN is proud to host this event which showcases practical examples of how collaboration helps to stop scams at source.

Join us for a panel discussion led by Ruth Evans, Chair of Stop Scams UK on how collaborations between banks, online platforms and telcos is helping to defeat fraudsters.  Ruth will be talking to:

Penny Clarke, Director of Fraud, Credit Risk & Operational Compliance, Virgin Media O2

Rima Amin, Security Policy Manager, Meta

Sara Cass, Compliance Oversight, MLRO (SMF16, SMF17)

Bethan Wearmouth, Senior Manager Fraud Systems and Controls, Lloyds Banking Group
